Part 4

Rina held his hands, anxiously waiting for him to wake up. She asked the doctors and the nurses about his condition but none of them would tell. They told her that it was against their policy and furthermore his family ha given strict instructions not to divulge his condition to anyone. Rina felt frustrated.

Suddenly, there were two people entering the room. Rina assumed the lady was his mother as they looked alike. The other man who wore a white coat, she wondered if he was his father. Rina let go of his hand and stood by the window, making way for them to be near him.

“Tomo-chan. Kasan, is here,” the lady shook him gently.

Rina just watched the interaction. The man noticed her presence. “Are you his girlfriend?” he asked.

Rina shook her head. “No, no. I’m just his friend. He is teaching me how to dance in the dance school,” she answered.

“I see. I’m Doctor Oda. Nice meeting you. Can you please let us have our privacy with him?” he asked, politely.

Rina nodded. “Sumimasen,” she bowed and hurried off from there.

A few minutes after se left, Yamashita woke up. “Rina…” he called.

“Tomo-chan,” his mother called him again.

Yamashita opened his eyes. “Kasan? Sensei,” he acknowledged them.

“Tomo-chan, let’s go home. You will have a better chance of being cured if you are home. Everyone is waiting for you,” his mother begged him.

Yamashita shook his head. “No. I’m not going home. I can never be cured,” he refused.

“Yamashita-kun, you need a lot of rest. We are still trying to find a cure for your sickness. If you come home, I’m sure the medicine will be found,” the doctor replied.

“No. I’m going back to my own place. That’s no point staying here or at home. Anyway, Rina is waiting for me. I have a lot of things to do. Ja,” he got off the bed.

He opened the door. He was face-to-face with Rina. Rina looked at him with tears in her eyes. “Rina…” he started but Rina slapped him hard on his cheek and then ran off, disappeared behind the corridors.
